Chromepet Cultural Academy was started in the year 1969, with a view to cater to the cultural need of the citizens of Chromepet and its environs. Our Academy was adjudged as the Best Sabha in Madras City belt area and we were awarded a shield and a certificate of Merit by the Governor of Tamilnadu, His Excellency Shri Prabhudas Patwari on 22nd June 1977. With the blessings of Kanchi Paramacharyal, a plot measuring 6.5 grounds was purchased in 1974. His HOLINESS Shri Jayendra Saraswathi Swamigal laid the foundation in 1975 for the construction of Kalai Arangam. A Stage measuring 40 feet x 40 feet with rooms, toilet etc., was declared open to the public on 27th May 1979 by Late Shri A.V.Meyyappa Chettiyar of A.V.M. Studios.
Our Academy celebrated silver jubilee in September 1994. A covered auditorium measuring 90 x 50 with tubular stresses / asbestos sheets was constructed and this was inaugurated by the industrialist Shri A.C.Vadivelu on 20th April 1996. Our Academy was again adjudged as the best Sabha in the Suburbs by the Mylapore Academy in the year 1996. We were also adjusted as on outstanding Sabha for contribution of Tamil Fine arts in the Own auditorium for the year 2001 and 2012. For the past eight years we are also presenting a memento and a cash award to the students who scores the maximum mark in the Tenth and Twelth examinations. We are also giving free Note Books to poor Students.
We stage dramas every month by leading troupes, Carnatic music recitals, Light Music and Bharathanatyam are presented to all. Religious discourses by eminent scholars are held every year in our auditorium.
